The Why

As Simon Sinek states in his book “people don’t buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it”. What is the ultimate goal for your success? Remember that it might take years to build this, you can be lucky, but most startups fail. Now, will you have the strength to go through the bad times of your project? Will you keep insisting when there is no money on the table? Write down a couple of senteces about how your life will be better in three to five years by starting your project In another sentence write down how your life would be worse if you don´t start.

The What

This is a plan with actionable steps. How will you proceed to make your plan become reality. How will you get from Ideation to Product Release? First you think it, then you do it, right? Easier said then done! For example if you’re writing a book, you will need to outline your idea, then you will draft the chapters, then go into copywriting, then proofreading, designing, marketing, releasing and so on…. Write a few sentences on how you will implement your plan and how you will measure and track your progress to achieve your goals.

The Time

We all have 24 hours a day, and eventually we need to sleep. How many hours can you dedicate to achieve your goal? Remember this will become your Life work, it will be your legacy. This guide is written for people who want to go All In, not only halfway through. Of course, you might have a job that needs time, you might have a family to feed or other hobbies that take time, but if you really want to do this, you will make time for it. Write down how many hours per day you can commit. Think about what the best time is for you to work on this. Are you an early morning person and willing to work for 2 hours before leaving to work? Or are you rather a night owl and able to stay up till late to get things done? Only you know the answer.

The Pitch

This one is really important. Might sound banal, but this is something you must train at all times. You need to sound very precise and secure about your project. The faster you can explain it, the easier it will open doors for you. Eventually you will meet somebody important, whom you really want to convince. This can be an Investor, an Agent, a Journalist or a potential client or potential employee. If you stutter to describe what you project is about, they will not take you seriously. Use the Madlibs format to describe it.

If you're a business

My company _______(name of your company)
develops _______ (defined offering)
to help _______ (defined audience)
solve _______ ( defined problem)
with _______ (secret sauce)

If you're an artist

My Band/project _______ (name)
plays/creates _______ (defined genre/style)
for _______(defined audience)

Write down your Madlibs style presentation in one sentence. Also prepare a one minute verbal pitch to present your project. In this one minute you will describe your idea, make clear what problem you’re trying to solve or what benefit you’re bringing for your audience and describe why you are uniquely qualified to pursue this project. Make clear what sets you apart from your competitors. Be convincing! Be clear! And rehearse this every day. You must be able to answer the phone in the middle of the night and present yourself.
